July 1, 2014 – Mooresville, NC – Shannon McIntosh has been waiting a long time for this moment to happen….her ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut. That day will come when she joins her Cunningham Motorsports team at Lucas Oil Raceway for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 on July 25th.
Originally planned for April at Salem Speedway, McIntosh’s debut had to be pushed back to July, due to sponsorship woes. The delay has only intensified her resolve to make the most of her opportunity, as she said, “I can’t wait to get back to Indianapolis, especially during the Brickyard 400 weekend. The opportunity to race for Cunningham Motorsports is absolutely huge for me and I intend to give the team the results we are capable of getting in July.”
To say that this day has been a long time in the making would be an understatement as the 24 year old, Ohio-born driver states, “July 25 is actually the day after my 25th birthday and it has definitely been a long time in the making. Finally having a date nailed down and to know I’m actually racing is huge. I am so relieved and ready to go. I know Briggs and Kerry have worked hard to give me this opportunity and I am so grateful.”
Driving since the age of 5 when she cut her teeth in the Quarter Midget Series at Kil Kare Speedway in Xenia, Ohio, she has progressed to the ARCA Series through dirt Micro & Mini Sprints, USAC Focus & Midgets, dirt Late Models, 360 winged Sprint Cars and most recently, INDYCAR’S USF2000 development series.
Now that she has her debut date set, the St. Petersburg, Florida resident said, “Although we had some complications with intended sponsorship for this year, Cunningham Motorsports has remained behind me. To have this kind of belief and support really says a lot about what we have here. I want to thank Kerry Scherer for believing in me, Paul Andrews and the team for giving me the chance and mostly to Mr. Cunningham for his support. I could not be more honored to drive for this team in Indianapolis.”
The one day event on Friday, July 25, culminates with the 200 lap race on the .686-mile race track at 9:00 pm EST, with live coverage on Fox Sports 1 and ARCAracing.com
All on-track activities will be covered on twitter @cunningham_race.
